  2. We work to reduce waste and promote the effective use of resources through the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, contributing to the realization of a circular society.
  3. We comply with relevant laws, regulations, ordinances, and agreements.

Initiatives Towards Achieving a Decarbonized Society

(Awareness of Climate Change)

The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly severe each year, significantly affecting the environment, society, people's lives, and corporate activities.

In response to this crisis, efforts to mitigate global warming by achieving a decarbonized society have accelerated worldwide, forming a major global trend. The "Paris Agreement," adopted at COP21, set a common global goal of keeping the rise in the global average temperature well below 2℃ above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 through the reduction of GHG emissions.

Achieving this goal requires structural transformation and significant decarbonization investments by both public and private sectors as part of global action. There is a growing expectation for the role of the private sector, in addition to national governments, and corporate efforts towards a decarbonized society through their business activities have become an urgent priority.

The Japanese government has declared its aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, effectively reducing GHG emissions to net zero. In subsequent meetings of the Global Warming Countermeasures Headquarters and the United Nations Climate Summit, our country committed to this "2050 Carbon Neutral Declaration" with an ambitious milestone to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% compared to 2013 levels by fiscal year 2030, with continued efforts towards a 50% reduction.

(Our Initiatives)

At NOSAWA, we recognize that climate change, which significantly impacts the planet, ecosystems, human life, and corporate activities, poses both risks and new business opportunities. Contributing to a decarbonized society is considered a critical management issue that we must address and challenge to achieve sustainable growth.

We have long provided products and services that help reduce and mitigate environmental impacts, and we will continue to actively promote these efforts. Additionally, we have established various policies, including our Basic Sustainability Policy, which are posted on our website.

As a starting point for strengthening our initiatives, our Board of Directors has resolved to set GHG emission reduction targets in line with the government's goals: a 46% reduction by fiscal year 2030 compared to 2013 levels, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve these goals, we will begin calculating supply chain emissions starting next fiscal year; commencing in October 2024, to gain a comprehensive understanding of our overall impact.

In our calculations, we will adhere to the GHG Protocol, a globally recommended standard, and focus on the following scopes:

Scope 1: Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the company (e.g., fuel combustion, industrial processes).
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the consumption of purchased electricity, heat, or steam.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions not covered in Scope 1 and 2 (e.g., emissions from the company's value chain).

We plan to start with quantifiable items and business locations and progressively expand the scope of our investigations, improve the accuracy of our calculation processes, and disclose the results.

By visualizing emissions, we will be able to reset reduction targets and identify priority areas for emission reduction to achieve these targets. Following this approach, we will actively plan and promote specific measures such as energy-saving initiatives, the use of renewable energy, and the development of new products and services.

Additionally, we will engage in educational and awareness-raising activities to foster sustainability awareness among our employees. We will also strive to engage in dialogue with our business partners and other stakeholders to reduce GHG emissions.

Environmentally Conscious Procurement

Basic Policy on Sustainable Procurement

At NOSAWA, we have long conducted fair and equitable purchasing activities with high ethical standards, in compliance with laws and regulations, following our management philosophy and principles of conduct. In our commitment to realizing a sustainable society, we consider environmental conservation, resource protection, safety, and human rights, fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.
Moreover, we believe that efforts towards sustainability can only be fully achieved when the entire supply chain is involved. Therefore, we ensure that this policy is thoroughly communicated and adhered to within the company, with each employee complying with it. We also strive to build even stronger relationships by gaining the understanding and cooperation of our business partners.

  1. Promoting Fair and Equitable Transactions
    • The selection of our business partners is based on a fair evaluation of factors such as the safety, quality, price, and delivery of products and services, as well as the transparency, stability, manufacturing capacity, supply capability, and sustainability practices of the company's management.
    • We open our procurement process to provide fair opportunities for all potential business partners.
  2. Building Trusting Relationships with Business Partners
    • We recognize our business partners as essential partners in executing our business operations.
    • We aim to deepen mutual understanding and build long-term trust. We will faithfully fulfill contracts with our business partners and appropriately manage confidential and personal information related to procurement activities. Additionally, we do not engage in procurement transactions that infringe on the intellectual property rights of third parties.
  3. Compliance with Laws and Social Norms
    • In conducting procurement activities, we comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
    • Entertainment and gifts exchanged with business partners are conducted in accordance with legal requirements and internal standards, and we do not engage in illegal activities. Furthermore, procurement personnel do not accept private benefits related to their duties.
  4. Consideration for the Environment
    • We actively address climate change and strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
    • We work to conserve biodiversity, protect and maintain resources, and improve the environment.
    • We also strive to reduce waste and promote the recycling of resources and energy.
  5. Respect for Human Rights
    • We eliminate all forms of human rights violations, such as forced labor, child labor, and harassment, throughout our supply chain.
